“The 5 Most Ridiculous Lies You Were Taught in History Class”
Education, Good Readin', Just for Fun Tagged cracked.com, homeschooling, private schooling, public school, school choice April 2nd, 2008I graduated from public school, so I’m generally not a loud voice in the “public schools are entirely worthless” chants. I had some really great teachers, and I had some really lousy ones. I’m all for school choice, and I’m not exactly a spokesperson for government monopolies on anything. But I also get really tired of the self-righteousness from some sects of homeschoolers or private schoolers. In short, there isn’t one magical solution—families should have the freedom to decide for themselves how their kids are educated.
Anyway, whatever education route a family decides to take, it would probably be wise to make sure the kids are actually learning the truth about history, as opposed to some of the fables that have made their way into textbooks just to spice things up.

Wow. Who knew that Cracked is still kicking it strong. That article was hilarious. And awesome. I should think about renewing that subscription from 12 years ago.

I think you’re too easy on the public schools. I, too, had some good teachers, but that’s not the point. And it’s not just a choice between public schools and home schoolers. Public schools are socialist schools, and socialism is a proven failure everywhere it has been tried. It has never worked in any country, it has never worked in any industry, and it has never worked in any century. To assume that education is somehow different, or that socialism can somehow work in education, is the ultimate triumph of hope over experience. There is a solution, and it’s not magic, it’s the free market. But it’s more than just choice, it’s the complete abolition of socialist public schools.
